What’s In My Bag: Makeup Edition

So I have a problem. I LOVE MAKEUP. Its only a problem because I am the mom of a toddler who wakes up early; so I only struggle to actually put on makeup about 50% of the time. But that doesn’t stop me from pinning, buying, collection, trying and organizing my hoard.

I thought I’d share with you the top 10 things I’m using these days (and no, I could not narrow it down any better than that). Of course these things change over time and I love discovering new products. But these are my top 10-tried and true-used-them-for-more-than-a-year picks! (**this is not an affiliate linked post, all opinions are my own**)

  1. Bye-bye Under Eye by IT Cosmetics
You guys, this stuff is AMAZING. You cannot believe what it covers. Dark circles, zits, blemishes, redness, sun spots, tattoos… yeah, I said tattoos. I first discovered this product over 3 years ago while watching the inventor herself, Jamie Kern Lima, on QVC. (Yes, I Q, and I’m not ashamed, thats a whole other post) It comes in a few different shades and blends with any foundation and skin tone. I’ve applied it using brushes, blenders, my ring finger, doesn’t matter, it does its job every time.
  2. Roller-Lash Mascara by Benefit
I LOVE MASCARA. I have about 5 different varieties in my makeup drawer at any given time. But this is the one I always come back to. It has a curved brush, with fine bristles that separate your lashed beautifully and is NOT clumpy. Its the perfect natural look if you just want defined, pretty lashes.
  3. CC+ Illumination Color Correcting Cream with SPF50 by IT Cosmetics
This CC cream covers like foundation but feels like moisturizer. Its my summer go-to for full coverage without feeling like I’m wearing heavy makeup that going to sweat off.
  4. Mineralize Skin Finish Pressed Powder by MAC
I use this with an angled flat kabuki brush over CC cream or liquid foundation. It glides on leaving your skin looking smooth and natural not heavy and caky. This powder has a super silky texture, and on lazy days when I don’t want to use a separate concealer, I just apply it to my under eye area with a concealer brush.
  5. NAKED Basics palette by Urban Decay
I love all the Naked palettes, but I have to say the Basics is my can’t fail, in a hurry, no brainer palette. Lid, crease, corner, DONE.
  6. Lasting Line Long-Wearing Eyeliner by Bare Minerals
If there’s a product I buy in bulk, its this. I’ve tried SO MANY EYELINERS. And this is the only one that cuts through every eye shadow I’ve worn (Urban Decay, Bare Minerals, IT Cosmetics, Mally, and more!). It glides on smooth, is easy to manipulate before it sets and is a twist-up which is great because I don’t have time in my life to be sharpening eye pencils (lest I remind you of the toddler who lives in my house?).
  7. Gimme Brow by Benefit
This little tube with brush applicator is a miracle worker. I have pretty great natural brows (not to brag, it just is what it is). I do pluck to keep them in line, and occasionally wax. But for the most part all I need this little magic brown gel to whip them into shape!
  8. Studio Fix Fluid SPF15 Foundation by MAC
This is my full-face foundation of choice. When I was in my twenties my skin was different and I could get away with a mineral or powder foundation for full coverage. But the thirties ain’t playin’ ya’ll. If I want true full coverage now, liquid foundation is what works best for me. And this one is money. It’s not too heavy, its buildable, and it goes on great with a brush or a blender (sponge) whichever you prefer. You definitely want to go over it with a loose or pressed powder, which I do by using the one mentioned up in #4.
  9. Bare Minerals Shimmer Eye Shadow in ‘Bahamas’
That’s weird that she’s recommending a specific shade of shadow right? Well, yeah, and if its not available anymore, sorry? But seriously this shimmery wonder is gorgeous worn alone or as a blending color, or a highlighter beneath the brow. It’s just seriously beautiful. And it makes other matte shadows come alive. It makes pinks more pink, lavenders more lavender, nudes into shimmery taupes, I could go on and on. But you get the idea. And if it is gone, and someone finds a drugstore hack, please share in the comments below, I’ll pay you in baked goods!
  10. Urban Decay Creme Lipstick in ‘F-BOMB’
Best. Red. Lipstick. Ever. Now, its not the kind that stays on forever and ever and if you’re going to eat or something with it on you’ll probably have to touch up afterward but its just the most perfect shade of red. And it does come off with a makeup remover wipe when you want it to. Not all red lipsticks are the same, and if you’re venturing out into this bold look for the time I recommend going to an Urban Decay counter and get help matching the right color of red for your skin tone. This particular color happens to work for me, and the cheeky name is just a bonus.
